This will was submitted by John Hills.

THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF JOHN CHAPMAN deceased with the probate thereof recorded November 17th, 1817.

Be it Remembered that I JOHN CHAPMAN of the Town of Hoosick in the County of Rensselaer and State of New York being weak in body but of Sound and perfect mind and memory helped by almighty God for the same do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following, That is to say

First I give and devise unto my two sons BENJAMIN CHAPMAN and JOHN CHAPMAN their heirs and assigns forever all my real estate in the Towns of Hoosick and Pittstown in the County and State aforesaid to be equally divided between them the said Benjamin and John and further I give and bequeath unto the Said Benjamin and John all my personal estate except my household stuffs and furniture and one cow, one hog, six sheep and half the geese to be equally divided between them, and further I will and order that if either of them should die without heirs then the said property both real and personal shall fall to and be possessed by the one living his heirs and assigns.

I also give and bequeath unto my beloved wife MARY CHAPMAN all my household stuff and furniture, one cow, one hog, six sheep and half the geese.

I also give and bequeath unto my son STEPHEN CHAPMAN ninety five dollars besides what he has had of my estate to be paid within ten months after my decease.

I also give and bequeath unto my two youngest sons ASA CHAPMAN and JONAH CHAPMAN the sum of one hundred and forty dollars each to be paid at the time they become of age.

I also give and bequeath unto my daughter HANNAH CHAPMAN the sum of forty seven dollars besides what she had had to be paid within two years from my decease.

I also give and bequeath unto my daughter ROCKSANNAH [sic] CHAPMAN the sum of seventy four dollars to be paid within three years from my decease.

And bequeath unto my daughter MATILDA CHAPMAN the sum of fifty four dollars besides what she has had to be paid within three years and six months from my decease.

I also give and bequeath unto my daughter SARAH CHAPMAN the sum of seventy four dollars to be paid within four years from my decease.

I also give and bequeath unto my daughter ESTHER CHAPMAN the sum of seventy four dollars to be paid within five years from my decease.

I also give and bequeath unto my daughter MARY CHAPMAN the sum of seventy four dollars to be paid when she becomes of the age of twenty one years.

I also give and bequeath unto my daughter WAITY CHAPMAN the sum of seventy four dollars to be paid when she becomes of the age of twenty one years.

I also give and bequeath unto my daughter AURILLA CHAPMAN the sum of seventy four dollars to be paid when she becomes of the age of twenty one years.

I also give and bequeath unto my son STEPHEN CHAPMAN's son JOHN the sum of five dollars to be paid when he becomes of age.

I aslo give and bequeath unto my daughter HANNAH CHAPMAN for JOHN C. HERRINGTON the sum of five dollars to be paid when he becomes of age.

And further I will and order that the aforementioned Benjamin Chapman and John Chapman shall pay each and every one of the several funds or legacies to each and every of my several sons and daughters at the ages and times appointed for each and every of them to be paid as aforesaid.

I also will and order that the aforesaid Benjamin Chapman and John Chapman shall take upon them the oversight, care, management and expense of my children that are underage to bring up educate and tutor them in a proper and reasonable manner; and I will and order that the said children shall be obedient and faithful unto them the said Benjamin Chapman and John Chapman as Law and reason and Justice require and that the said Benjamin Chapman and John Chapman shall each bear his equal part in the paying the aforesaid funds or legacies and bringing up the aforesaid children; and I hereby appoint the aforesaid BENJAMIN CHAPMAN and [SARAH] BAKER administrators of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Twenty Ninth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventeen.

Signed sealed published and declared before the above named John Chapman to be his Last Will and Testament in presence of us who at his request etc.
