Last Will and Testament

I, JACOB DECKER of Schodack in the County of Rensselaer and State of New York do make and Ordain this my last will & testament in manner and form following Viz: My debts to be in the first place paid

To my dear Sons PETER and ABRAHAM I give and bequeath all my personal property except that part of the household furniture left by my FIRST WIFE which said furniture I give & bequeath to my dear daughter CATHARINE. The said furniture must be appraised by men chosen by my heirs and the amount of it deducted from Catharine's share of my real estate, the residue of my household furniture I give & bequeath to my dear beloved wife TRIPHENA. My dear sons Peter and Abraham must give to my said dear wife when demanded One Cow (her Choice among my Cows) and four sheep as her own forever.

Also I give and bequeath to my wife Triphena one third of my real estate as her property during her widowhood, and I hereby nominate constitute & appoint my said wife TRIPHENA and HENRY VANDENBERG of this Town aforesaid Executrix Executrix [sic] and Executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all other former wills by me at any time heretofore made.

Two thirds of my real estate I give and bequeath to my six dear children HENRY, JACOB, JOHN, CATHARINE, PETER & ABRAHAM to be divided equally among them when they shall all have arrived at lawful age, as also the remaining third to be so divided after the death or widowhood of my said present wife.

My Step-Mother is to be allowed thirty dollars in money, two hundred pounds weight of pork and and [sic] six pounds of wool annually during her life by my heirs

My real estate may not be sold until after the death of my said Step-Mother. My Sons Peter and Abraham are to continue & work on my farm till they shall have arrived both of them at lawfull age when my personal property shall be appraised by men appointed by the said Peter & Abraham the said personal property to be divided equally between them (P. and A.) except what I have given to my wife.

It will be the duty of Peter & Abraham to pay up the rent & taxes of the said farm until division is made. My wife Triphena Triphena [sic] is at liberty to keep one hog on said farm and to fatten one on the same annually.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand [and] seal the twelfth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty seven.

[NOTE from the submitter: "This will is proof that this testator's father, HENRY DECKER, married two DIFFERENT women named Catharine VAN VREDENBURGH. The one who was the mother of this testator was a daughter of Isaac VAN VREDENBURGH and Geesjen PIER of Columbia Co. NY. The one who is mentioned in this will as the testator's "stepmother", still surviving in 1827, was a daughter of Petrus VAN VREDENBURGH and Lydia DUTCHER of Dutchess Co NY.]
