James L. Smith. 23 years old. Enlisted on 8/14/1862 at Brunswick, NY as a sergeant. On 8/27/1862 he mustered into "H" Co. NY 125th Infantry. He was mustered out on 6/20/1865 at Albany, NY (mustered out while in hospital at Troy, NY). He was listed as POW 9/15/1862 at Harper's Ferry, VA. Paroled 9/16/1862 at Harper's Ferry, VA. Wounded 10/14/1863 Auburn Hill, VA and again 4/2/1865 at Petersburg, VA. Promotions: 1st Sergt. 3/15/1865; 1st Lieut. 5/22/1865 (not mustered). Source: New York: Report of the Adjutant-General.
