Nelson Penfield. 45 years old. Enrolled 7/18/1862 at Troy, NY to serve three years. Mustered in as captain Co. F [125th NY Infantry] 7//18/1862. Surrendered 9/15/1862 and paroled 9/16/1862 at Harper's Ferry, VA. Dismissed 11/12/1862 for disability. Dismissal removed and again mustered in as captain Co. K 7/17/1863; discharged for disability to date 11/27/1864. Commissioned Captain 9/10/1862, with rank from 8/18/1862, original. Recommissioned 6/2/1863, with rank from 4/22/1863, vice J . V. W. Vandenburgh. Dismissed as major, not mustered, 12/31/1864, with rank from same. Source: New York: Report of the Adjutant-General.
