IVANYSHYN, Andrew, Very Reverend. IVANYSHYN, Rev. Andrew - Former Pastor in Troy - A memorial service
for the Very Rev. Andrew IVANYSHYN, 85, former pastor of St. Nicholas's
Ukrainian Orthodox Church, will be conducted at 7:30 p. m. today at the
Leahy Funeral Home, 336 3rd Street, Troy. Father Ivanyshyn, who resided
on Moonlawn Road, Eagle Mills [in the town of Brunswick, Rensselaer County, NY],
died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital following a long illness.
Father Ivanyshyn was born in Poswerz, Galicia in the western Ukraine and came
to the United States at the age of 19, studying in seminaries in Bloomfield, NJ
and in Canada. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1907. He served parishes
in Lopez, Pa.; Sayre, Pa.; Wilmington, Del.; New York City; and Saskatchewan
before coming to St. Nicholas's Church, Troy, in 1929. After serving the
parish in a temporary capacity, he was transferred to New Britain, Conn.
and returned as pastor of St. Nicholas here in December 1934, remaining in that post
until 1953. He subsequently served pastorates in Rome and Hudson, NY,
and retired in 1963. During Father Ivanyshan's tenure in Troy, the
mortgage of the church was burned, the church was redecorated, and a
parish hall was constructed. He was also responsible for the erection of
a monument to the servicemen of World War II from the parish. Husband of
the late Anne HRUBENAK, he is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Carl VOGT
of New Hampshire, Mrs. Leonard DOURMASHKIN of Dobbs Ferry, NY, Mrs.
Alfred GORMAN of Hawley, Pa., and Mrs. Helen TRIANTAFILLOU of Troy; a
son, Walther W. IVANYSHYN of Troy; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Father Ivanyshyn will lie in state from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in St. Nicholas's
Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and a memorial service will be held at 7:30 p. m.
Friday in the church. The funeral will be held at 9 a. m. Saturday in the church,
where a Requiem Service will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Nicholas's

IVES, Marjorie H. (Mrs. Merritt E. WAGAR).
- GRAFTON - Marjorie H. IVES WAGAR, 82, of Simon Road, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy [Rensselaer County, NY] after a brief illness. Born in Troy, she was a daughter of the late Alson H. IVES Gladys COTTRELL and wife of the late Merritt E. WAGAR. She had resided in Troy for 21 years and most of her life in Grafton and was a graduate of Troy High School Class of 1944. She was a homemaker. An active member of the Grafton United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Troy Annual Conference for 25 years, serving on the Board of Global Ministries, on the Laity Committee and as a Certified Lay Speaker. She was active in the Bennington-Troy (Embury) District, also with the District United Methodist Women and was a former district president. Mrs. Wagar was a member and former president of the Grafton Historical Society and a member of the former Grafton Community League and the PTA. Survivors include three sons, Richard M. WAGAR (Missy) of Troy, James E. WAGAR (Carol) of Grafton and Jeffrey A. WAGAR (Beth) of Grafton; a daughter, Joanne M. HUBBS (Mark) of Pittstown; a sister, Dorothy MCCHESNEY of Moriah; nine grandchildren, Stacy WINN, Richard M. WAGAR II, Collen WAGAR, Gregory LEWIS, Matthew LEWIS, David HUBBS, Michael HUBBS, Nathan WAGAR and Leta WAGAR; four great-grandchildren, Jordan WINN, Kylie WINN, Brooke RYAN and Drew RYAN; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Ruth I. DALEY. Funeral services will be held Friday at 12 noon at the Grafton United Methodist Church, Route 2, Grafton. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc., 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in Eagle Mills Cemetery. The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the ER staff and 5th Floor nursing staff at St. Mary's Hospital and the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Marjorie Wagar either to the Grafton Historical Society, P. O. Box 244, Grafton, NY 12082 or to the Grafton Methodist Church Building Fund, Route 2, Grafton, NY 12082.
