1890 US Federal Census
Town of Nassau

Surviving Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines, and Widows, Etc.

The 1890 US Census was destroyed by fire; only a few counties in the entire USA survive. However, the 1890 US Census also included a "special schedule of persons who served in the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps of the United States during the War of the Rebellion [now generally known as the American Civil War, 1861-1865] (who are survivors), and widows of such persons", enumerated in June 1890. These special schedules of veterans and widows of veterans survived the fire for most counties of the USA, and we present here those for towns in Rensselaer County, NY. Information on this page was transcribed from a microfilm of the original census schedule. The Town of Nassau in 1890 contained the villages of Alps, Brainard, East Nassau, Hoag's Corner, Miller's Corners, Nassau and North Nassau, and the hamlet of Slab City. Most of these villages later relinquished their incorporated status.
