Whitman, Peter D, was born in Canaan, Columbia county, NY January 27, 1833. He was the son of John and Mary (Deyo) Whitman; he was born in Chatham [Columbia Co, NY], and she in Schodack, [Rensselaer County] NY. His grandfather was Samuel Whitman; he lived in Wayne County [NY] and spent his last days there. His father was a farmer and died in 1877; his widow is now living.
Peter D. Whitman was reared on a farm and educated in the common schools. He is a farmer and in 1856 came to Schodack and in 1873 bought a farm of 160 acres. In December 1869 he married Rosamond Shufelt of Schodack, by whom he has had five children: Sarah; Gordon, deceased; Catherine; William; and Clarence.
